Crys Armbrust Crys Armbrust: Diabelli-Contest 2016

« Back ⇧List⇧ Next »
An eight-part, SSAATTBB setting of The Wessobrunn Prayer in both Latin and English. The composition invokes in its TTBB Latin opening a reverent recall of the marvel and mystery of God's creation of the universe out of choas (nothingness).

The work begins to shift character in measure 16 with the introduction of the SSAA voices and the English text, building into a resolute and triumphant paean. The work's quiet ending circles back and echos the melodic theme introduced in measure 17 and ends, in Latin, with a meditative stress on God's great goodness, as the maker (de poeta) of creation.
