BIOGRAPHY
I have been studying music since the age of 9 starting as a piano player and saxophone player afterwards. Then followed music college and the department of Music history and theory which is also the time I began to compose music under the supervision of my first serious teacher in composition. I took part in my first local competition for young composers ARENA 2010 and for my own surprise got a second prize. Also at this time I began to collaborate with other performers both my colleagues students and also professional musicians.
After graduating I continued my pathway as a composer and entered Latvia Academy of Music department of Composition. During this time I did regularly take part in local competitions like Pēteris Vasks composition competition, attended local workshops in my native country like Madona workshop for young musicians and also international masterclasses and workshops like Young Composers Meeting in Apeldoorn in Netherlands, Cheltenham Composers Academy in United Kingdom.
For one semester in 2016/2017 I studied in Universität der Künste Berlin as an exchange student and after getting Bachelors degree in 2017 I did ERASMUS internship in Berlin with Gamelan groups Puspha Githa Pertiwi and Lindhu Raras at the culture department of Indonesia Embassy Berlin.
Meanwhile a have been involved in collaboration projects with professional musicians from my country and keep having them also after graduating.
Right after graduating I became a member of Latvia Composers Union.
Since 2011 I have been a singer in female choir ViaStella and from 2013-2017 I performed together with Latvia University Wind Band as a saxophone player. Recently I have started a piano duo.

Wanke, Otto
Otto Wanke was born in 1989 in the Czech Republic. He has been living in Austria for 14 years. At the age of 18 he took private composition lessons and at 19 he began studying jazz composition at the Jazz Conservatory in Prague. As a composer he was mainly active in the field of chamber music during this period. For larger ensembles he wrote the piece ''On The Horizont for Big Band and Movements'' for string orchestra. With ''Movements'' he won the composition competition in Brno.
After 2 years in Prague he moved to Vienna where he studied classical composition with Wolfgang Liebhart as well as media and electroacoustic composition with Karlheinz Essl and Iris ter Schiphorst at the University of Music in Vienna and at the MUK. In Vienna he also began to work as a conductor and sound engineer. As an instrumentalist and composer he has already had numerous concerts in various European countries.
In 2013, he began to work with the composer Bruno Liberda. Under his influence he composed his first purely electronic piece ''Breathing Underwater'' for eight loudspeakers and won the composition competition Maarble in Greece. As a result of this success with electronic music he composed stages for violin and electronics and threads for bass clarinet and electronics. These pieces have been performed successfully in several countries, including Spain, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. Since then he has also been working as a performer in electronic music mainly in cooperation with live musicians.
His compositional repertoire now also includes a large number of works that are purely instrumental: for solo instruments, chamber music and orchestra - his orchestral works Morphen (2016) and Shimmering (2017) were premiered at the ''ORF Radiokulturhaus''.
In 2016, he was in the finals of ''Ö1 competition'' (Ö1 is a Austrian Radio Station) and his portrait was broadcasted on Radio Ö1. That same year he won the Gustav Mahler Competition. As part of this project, he has worked on an oratorio with Wolfgang Mitterer, Paul Gulda and Christoph Cech.
In 2017, he won second place in the FIMS competition in Switzerland and received an order for an orchestral piece from the orchestra in Cottbus, Germany. The new orchestral piece will be premiered in January 2018.

Born in Mexico City, he starts to discover his musical skills with the guitar under his parent’s guidance, deciding to follow piano studies. Due to his disposition, dedication and interest in this instrument, the eminent pianist and professor José Antonio Morales accepted to direct his pianos studies since 1995, being one of his best students. In the summer of 1997 he was selected to participate in the Music Performances at Manhattan, California. From there on he has performed in various stages.
In the fall of 2000 he relocates to Toronto to continue his professional studies and is accepted at “The Glenn School of Music of the Royal Conservatory of Music” working with Professor Marietta Orlov. The following year he enters the Music Faculty of the University of Toronto in where he has the opportunity to work with great artists such as Boris Lysenco, Lorand Fenyves and with the excellent composer Alexander Rapoport. In the spring of 2005 the University of Toronto grants him the “Bachelor of Music in Performance” degree.
After his encounter with the Canadian composer Alexander Rapoport in September of 2004, he becomes interested in composing. Among his works we have the collection “Miniatures” for piano solo and the “Preludes GCBH” for guitar. The “Mexican Guitar Trio” has recorded his “Mexican Fantasia” and his “Minuet and Rondo over themes by Diabelly” in their CD entitled “una Fantasía Mexicana” (a Mexican Fantasy)
He has released two recordings: one with works by “Beethoven and Chopin” and “entre España y América” (between Spain and America) with works by Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, and Rapoport. “Publicaciones y Accesorios MGM” has published all 7 notebooks of his collection “Miniatures”.
Various audiences have agreed on his refined execution of authors such as Albéniz, Brahms, Villa-Lobos, Schubert, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Pepin, Rapoport, Schumann, Bach and Scarlatti among others.

I believe the power of art in general and music in particular is to offer comfort, amuse and delight, to stimulate thought and discourse, to stir and influence, to excite and to harass - to touch the soul.
"There is nothing in the physical world as fine as music" (Ramban), which is the music that succeeds, in the absence of words, to translate soul experiences and communicate with one another.
This is a moment in common in which the composer, the performer and the listener shed the "automatic" edge of the race of life and connect with a sincere movement of the soul.
Music for me is a fascinating world, surprising, funny and melancholy, full of inspiration, color and imagination, a world in which I experience adventure, daring along borders, disappointment and achievement.
I hope that by listening to my music you will experience those moments of breathing of the spirit and the soul.

I come from a family of three successive generations: my grandfather, my father (he was a professional musician with a comprehensive education), and myself. I am the third in line as a professional musician. I started at the age of 3 years with my musical progress and playing the clarinet. At the age of 5 years I took the test for the Union of Musicians in order to become a professional but the permitted age for such an examination at the time was 16 years of age. At the age of 5, I was in two bands, one in San Roque for children and another professional band in La Línea with my father and grandfather. Afterwards I joined another band of my father's in addition to studying and being tested free of charge at the conservatory. After that I created my own music group and alternated with a music group of my father's when after 7 years we became successful with the band La Linea.
... As I continued my studies, I entered the ''La Linea Conservatory''. I was in classes that were part of the daily life of a conservatory where I learned that it is not the same as being free of charge. After several music groups, where we missed all kinds of music and events, I recorded my own album, which was one of the top ten on ''Cadena Dial'' for 6 months with the theme of "La Quiero". I was called Sonay, hence the SGAE (General Society of Spanish Authors) with my father who handed over to me as an author and songwriter, like Alicia Domínguez and also the pseudonym Sonay. I was on television, radio and I have now published books extensively in this field.
Over a period of 15 years I have been teaching and I am pleased that all the results were very positive, both with exams, as well as training in music,... I had a choir of both young and older children a few years ago.... Now part of a program of special classes. I use music therapy for children with neurological disorders, delays, autisms, asperge, nystagmus, cerebral infarctions etc..... I once again implemented a dissertation aid, benefits and recreation therapy which uses music for neurological diseases affecting children and up to and including senior citizens. I sent this to Sgae and also to Her Majesty the Queen Doña Sofía de España, in which she expressed her appreciation to me for its contribution to the thesis of neurological experts of the Alzheimer disease of Vallecas (Madrid).

Drewes, Michael
Michael Drewes was born and raised in Germany and moved with his family to Mexico City at age fourteen, where he lived for twenty-six years. His youthful interests centered on drawing, sculpting and designing buildings. He received his Bachelors degree in Architecture and his Masters in Art History from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and his Ph. D. in Architectural History from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany.
<br><br>
Drewes became curious about music in his mid-teens and learned to play the cello in school at that time. It was his only formal music training. Most musical knowledge was self-taught, sometimes under the guidance of experts.
<br><br>
As he started college, his mild interest became more intense, and he studied music theory, harmony and composing on his own. Musical ideas began to come to him, and he would write them down, sometimes with the aid of a neighbor's piano, and sometimes right from his head to paper - even symphonies - which he never heard, since orchestral facilities were not within his reach. He started his career with Mexico's Monuments Office, supervising restoration of church organs.
<br><br>
He continued to compose music, and filled notebooks of unplayed works. In 1985 Drewes moved to Israel, inspiring him to create different and more modern sounds, although his signature style continued to be basic classical harmonies. After eleven years living in Jerusalem (1985-1996), where he earned his living as restoration expert at the archaeological dig in Beit She'an, he moved to Miami. Musical ideas continued non-stop, and he went on to write them down. He dreams of being able some day to make his music come alive and breathe.

Jorge Luis Ferrari was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1954. In 1982, after working as a psychiatrist along five years, he left that profession to devote himself completely to music. He is a singer and choir conductor. He has been also principal of a music school in his city. He started to dedicate full time to composition only in 2015, when he got retirement in his school. Six of the compositions he wrote since then have got awards, in different competitions that took place in Ukraine (KLK New Music), Finland (VocalEspoo) and Hong Kong (Hong Kong Children’s Choir). His style always mixes past and present, but he explores different forms of mixing in each composition.

1951:
Irmgard and Hans Opahle had been expelled from Silesia and were looking for a new homeland, when their second daughter, Eva-Maria, was born in Gelsenkirchen. Not much later the family moved to Karlsruhe, where Eva-Maria’s four brothers were born.
At Karlsruhe Conservatory Eva-Maria learned to play the recorder, violin, piano and church organ and was taught harmony. She started studying music education at the University of Music Freiburg but, realizing that educational aspects were rather neglected in the study course, decided to train as a “mathematisch technische Assistentin” (computer technician) and pursued music as a hobby.
Her own family, which had been the primary focus in her life for many years, produced three children (who are now adults) and the name Götte-Schmidt.
1991:
After her youngest daughter was born, Eva-Maria quit her job in computers and established a private music school in Gengenbach. She developed her singing and conducting skills in numerous courses and directed choirs for many years.
An extensive training course in rhythmics provided plenty of inspiration to her as she wished to be more creative musically. The training has also impacted her work as a teacher and composer.

I later studied biology in Zurich, graduated in zoology and general botany and now work in a small institute in the field of molecular biology and electrophysiology.
My compositional role models are the masters of the Baroque and Classical periods (J. S. Bach, the representatives of the North German Organ School and W. A. Mozart). I couldn't and can't get used to the atonal or roughly dissonant sounds of contemporary “serious music”, which is why I consciously only use the traditional tonality.
It has struck me for a long time that female composers - especially in the earlier epochs of music history - are very rare, which is why I specifically search for pieces of music of all kinds in the local music library and on the Internet, by female composers from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and the classical. A selection of these is available under “Notation” or “Editing” in Musicalion.
In addition to biology, my other interests are the natural sciences in general, skiing, traveling, computers and the Internet, as well as aquaristics.

He wrote his first composition Little Waltz Op. 1 for string quartet during his work as a writer in 1994, as background music for a film script. The first part of the Elfen-Saga is also based on his own texts. Inspired by contemporary film music from Elliot Goldenthal, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, his musical interests have expanded to the Classical period and especially to the Romantic period and the great symphonies of Mahler and Bruckner. A further hobby, astronomy, served as the source for the symphonic cycle for the four Galileo symphonies. Each symphony is devoted to one of the 4 Galilean moons of Jupiter (Io, Ganymed, Callisto and Europa).

Pfaffenberger, Jürgen
Jürgen Pfaffenberger was born in Leipzig in January 1951. His interest in music was awakened when he was given a small accordion along with some music books. While still a child, he taught himself the basic skills for playing various types of accordions and bandoneons. In much the same way he acquired a substantial knowledge of reading and writing music. In the late 1960s he took part in an open competition for contemporary dance music held by the city of Leipzig where he was among the award winners.
While training to become a primary school teacher with music as a third subject, Pfaffenberger composed and arranged music that he played together with a group of fellow students at public performances. In his teaching job, he taught all grades right from the beginning. Besides that, he directed various choirs and an instrumental group at his school. His compositional work at that time consisted primarily of songs. The group participated in a number of concerts for schoolchildren where Hans Sandig’s “Besuch im Zoo” (A Visit to the Zoo) was performed.
From 1980, when he graduated from the conservatory as a certified music teacher, until his retirement in 2012 Pfaffenberger concentrated on his teaching job. While there was not much time left for composing he wrote various “Gebrauchsmusik“ pieces and contributed music to a number of children's theater projects.
In recent years, Pfaffenberger has started dedicating more of his time to composing, creating music for amateur theater groups and social dance clubs. As an exercise in orchestral composition, he wrote a symphonic piece in three movements. Sumiko Sato is a Composer/Pianist and Japanese native, who finished her doctorate at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA) in composition. She performs and arranges contemporary/classical works in diverse styles, also improvises freely. Often inspired by nature, she attempts to create music, with simple language and unorthodox approach. Her interest is integrating folk materials into her compositions for film, dance and theatre.
Since the great earthquake and tsunami hit her home Iwate in 2011, she has been focusing on creating music using traditional music of Iwate, where suffered greatly from the disaster. Sato’s 2013 album “Lotus” was produced with thoughts of the victims of the earthquake, wishing the rebirth of the afflicted areas of Iwate. In 2017 she released an album based on “Sakaya Uta”– traditional work songs of Sake brew masters collected in Iwate, supported by Jack Straw Cultural Center. These songs are on the verge of extinction, due to the mechanization of the breweries. She hopes to preserve them and hand them down to the next generations, also to evoke the breath of the local musical traditions among musicians and listeners.

Since I was a child, I’ve been keen on (mostly classical) music. I play the violin and viola in various ensembles (orchestral and chamber music, with a special liking for string quartets). Over time, I’ve felt an increasing desire to learn more about the "composer’s trade", i.e. to compose my own music.
Over the years, I’ve devoted myself to musical composition by teaching myself (composition exercises using theory books by H. Grabner, W. Maler and others). I enjoy using the Finale and Capella programs to work on my compositions.
I’ve published more than 30 pieces on the MyOwnMusic internet portal, where my works have frequently been listed among the Top 10. To listen to my music on the internet, go to https://www.myownmusic.de and enter my pseudonym "theophil". Most of my pieces are listed in the “Classical” category, and in my understanding “classical” covers a wide variety of music.

At the age of 7 I received almost 10 years of classical piano lessons and sang in the school choir. After school, I studied teaching (sports, geography) and worked with children and teenagers in various fields (school, training center, educational institution). So I didn't have the time to study music professionally. But music is my constant companion (playing the piano, organ, smaller compositions). I have enjoyed short term voluntary musical activities with children (ensemble, piano, organ).

Composer was born in Republic of Croatia. Since earliest childhood, composer began to show affinity in music – starts to play on Piano at age of 4. This was early mark of the future growth in music and together with music.
Today, composer main interest in music is composing. Composer perfected composing skills by number of recognized Croatian composers, like Davorin Kempf, Ruben Radica and Berislav Sipus. Some of compositions are successfully performed in Croatia and abroad (Austria, Italy, Germany, USA). Part of vocal work is recorded and published. Composer style is lyric, but in same time with modern approach to the music expression.
Some of the composition work can be aligned in opus:
- for solo instrument (Harp, Piano, Flute, Cello, Horn, Marimba, Organ...)
- for voice with Piano accompaniment (Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, Tenor, Baritone)
- for solo instrument with Piano accompaniment (Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Cello...)
- for mixed Choir
- for varoius chamber ensembles, and
- opera.
Part of composer’s music life is, without doubt, conducting. Since composer was always close to the vocalists, either through compositions or teaching, most of conducting work was with choirs. Composer was assistant conductor to the number of prominent choirs, like Zagreb Philharmonics Choir, girls choir “Zvjezdice” (one of best girls choir in this part of Europe) as well as many others. But, not only for choirs, composer was also assistant conductor of the Railroad Brass Band from Zagreb.
Outside composing and conducting, composer is active in music pedagogy. Since finishing the study of Music Theory and Composition at Music Academy in Zagreb (Croatia), composer is teaching almost all theory themes (Solfeggio, Harmony, Polyphony etc.) at Music School in Zagreb. Within her pedagogy work, composer achieved appreciable results, where so called “inductive“ approach has result with numbers of successful students and musicians.

Albin Wirbel (*October 16, 1971) is a trained church musician and works full-time in the parish of Herz-Jesu, Neugablonz, Germany.
At his concerts and church services, the listeners appreciate his wealth of ideas and his sensitive yet lively and stirring playing. His compositions also reflect this diversity both in terms of style and instrumentation. There are modern works for didgeridoo and organ, impressionistic compositions for flute and classical orchestral masses.
In order to perform these and other works in the proper style, he is director and founder of his own ensembles: the "Buronia Trio" (specialized for romantic and modern music), the ensemble "Carl Philipp" (for baroque and classical music), and larger project-related ensembles.
In order to further enliven the choir scene, the "Ü60 Chor" (Over 60 years old choir) was added to the existing choir groups in autumn 2018. A choir that is specially tailored to the singing needs of older people.
He leads the concert series "Friday Concerts" for the ''St. Dominikus Church'' which reinvigorates the oldest church in Kaufbeuren.
It is Albin Wirbel's desire to constantly reinterpret and combine the various arts. The listeners are integrated into the composition. Space and sounds are perceived in a new way. In his performances and compositions he repeatedly picks up on the inherent qualities of a room. Images, texts, light and space enter into dialogue with the music. And this leads to the emergence of new sounds and sensory perceptions. Thus, in a Passion Concert, the actors moved through the church space and apparently created Palm Sunday. Consciously used light and darkness increased the drama of the Passion event. And so the expanse of the room took on a new dimension. An experience that gets under your skin.
In addition to his studies in church music, Wirbel also studied music pedagogy, musicology, pedagogy and psycholinguistics. He passes on this combined knowledge in lectures and seminars. He also publishes various books such as poems and illustrated books.

I am from Dalian, China. I started to learn the piano when I was 6 years old. After that, I have never stopped learning music, either with a teacher or not. After graduated from Tsinghua university in China as a master student in integrated circuit design in 2018, I went to KU Leuven in Belgium for my PhD in computational mathematics. In Leuven, I learned music with Peter Breugelmans from the year 2010: not only on playing the organ and the harpsichord, but also on basso continuo and improvisation. Then, I got a basic concept about composition. In 2013, I moved to Magdeburg in Germany and worked in the Max Planck institute as a scientific researcher. In Magdeburg, I first learned the organ with Matthias Mück (organist of the St. Sebastian Church) for a few months, and then with Barry Jordan, the organist of Magdeburg Cathedral, up to now. I learned a lot from Barry: improving organ play techniques, analyzing musical compositions, designing musical ideas, and extending repertoire to cover great organ music from the Baroque period to the contemporary era.

I am closely connected to the classical organ music since my high school time. In Schaffhausen, the city of my youth, one of my esteemed teachers at the Münster gave me a first idea of the endless cosmos of the organ world. In those years, my fondness for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach emerged, which has not changed until today.
Since the early eighties I play regularly as a part-time church organist in various reformed congregations in my vicinity. Currently I work in a beautiful mountain church in the town of Rheinau - not far from the famous Rhine Falls.
In the early nineties I started to compose my own music for liturgical use. With the performance of a Good Friday Meditation - you can find several pieces here in Musicalion - I appeared on stage for the first time publically with a greater self-composition in 1998.
More recently, I transfer choral and orchestral works by Johann Sebastian Bach into organ versions and - if necessary - to a solo instrument. "Et incarnatus est" as an example - the beautiful set of the B minor Mass - also sounds very good as an arrangement for organ and oboe.
