Ezequiel S. Barrera
Born in Mexico City, he starts to discover his musical skills with the guitar under his parent’s guidance, deciding to follow piano studies. Due to his disposition, dedication and interest in this instrument, the eminent pianist and professor José Antonio Morales accepted to direct his pianos studies since 1995, being one of his best students. In the summer of 1997 he was selected to participate in the Music Performances at Manhattan, California. From there on he has performed in various stages.
In the fall of 2000 he relocates to Toronto to continue his professional studies and is accepted at “The Glenn School of Music of the Royal Conservatory of Music” working with Professor Marietta Orlov. The following year he enters the Music Faculty of the University of Toronto in where he has the opportunity to work with great artists such as Boris Lysenco, Lorand Fenyves and with the excellent composer Alexander Rapoport. In the spring of 2005 the University of Toronto grants him the “Bachelor of Music in Performance” degree.
After his encounter with the Canadian composer Alexander Rapoport in September of 2004, he becomes interested in composing. Among his works we have the collection “Miniatures” for piano solo and the “Preludes GCBH” for guitar. The “Mexican Guitar Trio” has recorded his “Mexican Fantasia” and his “Minuet and Rondo over themes by Diabelly” in their CD entitled “una Fantasía Mexicana” (a Mexican Fantasy)
He has released two recordings: one with works by “Beethoven and Chopin” and “entre España y América” (between Spain and America) with works by Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, and Rapoport. “Publicaciones y Accesorios MGM” has published all 7 notebooks of his collection “Miniatures”.
Various audiences have agreed on his refined execution of authors such as Albéniz, Brahms, Villa-Lobos, Schubert, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Pepin, Rapoport, Schumann, Bach and Scarlatti among others.
