De poeta is a setting of The Wessobrunn Prayer or Creation Poem from c790. The words are in Old High German, and the music uses the pulse of the words as rhythmic motifs. The music starts in a modal, contrapuntal style incorporating some aspects of organum. It builds up to the words ‘almahtico cot,’ (almighty God) at the start of a section in A major. The second half of the work moves back to the Phrygian modal music of the beginning.
