James Maunders James Maunders: Carl Orff Competition 2018 Orpheus. Eurydike. Hermes

« Back ⇧List⇧ Next »
My entry into the Carl Orff Competition 2018. This is a setting of part of the poem by Reiner Maria Rilke for Baritone & Harp. The singer also plays a large frame drum, with their hands and with a wooden stick. The harpist employs a number of colouristic techniques to depict the journey from the Underworld, Orpheus's horror & terror, and the fateful turning back. Duration is approx. 5 minutes. Due to limitations of working with software, the MIDI and (synth) mp3 versions uploaded here omit many of the percussive sounds.
