En 'Pobre mi negra' se presentan variaciones sobre la canción popular anónima argentina "Pobre mi Negra" (vidala). La vidala es un género musical folklórico originario del noroeste de Argentina.

En la exposición del tema se presenta el canto como es originalmente en la vidala: acompañado solo con un tambor.

Posteriormente suceden tres variaciones: una con énfasis en el ritmo, la siguiente con variaciones en el acompañamiento armónico y la última caracterizada por un crescendo y aumento progresivo de la densidad cronométrica.
