This is a Japanese children’s folk song. It usually incorporates movement by bouncing a ball, and moving a leg around the bouncing ball at the “sa” enunciation which takes place at the end of each sentence. This happens more frequently towards the end of the song and builds in excitement, pace, and vigor. It is odd meter, however children internalize it through exposure and sing naturally by an early age.
In Variation 3, there are quotes from other children’s folk songs. I have described a scene of many children playing different things, and gradually join this ball game.
