Roman Czura
Roman Czura, composer, was born in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1989. There he received his first piano lessons, among others at the Akademie für Tonkunst (Academy of Musical Arts) under Klára Mórocz and later in Mainz and Krakow, Poland, under Prof. Lidia Grychtołówna and Prof. Mariusz Sielski. He was accepted into the children's and youth composition class of Cord Meijering at the Akademie für Tonkunst in 2005. At this time he also consulted with the Mainz composer Volker David Kirchner. After graduating from high school he studied composition in Krakow, Riga and Katowice - among others with Prof. Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz, Prof. Juris Karlsons and Prof. Eugeniusz Knapik. He participated in master classes, seminars and workshops under the direction of Patrick Doyle, Louis Andriessen, Helmut Lachenmann and Pēteris Vasks. After graduating with topt marks, he immediately began doctoral studies at his alma mater in Katowice which he completed in 2019 with the conferral of a doctorate. Since 2014 he has also been teaching there score reading and instrumentation theory.
Most significant compositions:
...on the riverside, ner neshama'' for orchestra, first performed at the Wawel, Concierto ardiente for guitar and orchestra, ''Do prostego człowieka'' for soprano and orchestra, the concertante choral piece ''Ptasie Radio'' (The Bird Radio). His piano concerto "Kraftfelder" (Fields of Force) and the monumental Symphony No. 2 "Wie ein Naturlaut" (Like a Natural Sound) were premiered by the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio. The latter piece was commissioned by the ensemble. His works have been performed in Poland and abroad and have won prizes in various composition competitions.
He is a member of the Polish Composers' Association ZKP.
