Wessobrunn Prayer
for eight-part mixed choir (soprano I, soprano II, alto I, alto II, tenor I, tenor II, baritone, bass)

About the piece:
The story goes back to the beginning of time. A period in which lies the misty shroud of history and only now and then break briefly open to enable a clearer view of particular details. Appropriately, it begins mysteriously.
Speech is one of the greatest miracles. One should feel the reverent wonder.
No stars, no sun shone. It was groping in the dark.
Neither the beautiful moonlight, nor the splendor of the sea were to be.
Melancholy approaches.
Nothing was as the Almighty God - powerful, and yet the most merciful of all beings.
Drove around him - divine spirits.
On the throne - the holy God.
Details:
“Dat gafregin ich mit firahim”: What the “I”(ich) of prayer discovered, is located in distant times, in the mist of history - it remains blurred until in the mood - at God’s arrival - becomes clear.
“Firiwizzo Meista”: And it is one of the greatest wonders - the amazed excitement increases; with “Meista - The Greatest” “clears” it up shortly after C minor (it remains mysterious, is still far away - also for the listener of the story / prayer).
“Dat ero ni was …” The tone sequence from the beginning is taken up, the excitement continues to rise (male voices) - it goes back to the time in which neither earth nor heaven were (with “heaven” he points to the sky and fluctuates) - incomprehensible.
“noh paum noh pereg ni was”: sinks back into the mysterious tale - Nothing was ...
“No<star>noheinig noh sunna ni scein”:
it was (also) dark in the sky (above) - the supplicant feels his way in his narrative in the dark as well
“Noh mano ni liutha, noh the mareio seo”: it was not the beautiful moonlight, the glory of the sea did not shine - melancholy mingles in the narrative
“Do dar niwiht ni was enteo ni wenteo”: “ends and turns” - there was absolutely nothing - increase upto “spillover” (in the following part, the tension should expand)
“enti do was der eino almahtico cot”: that holds something enormous ...
“manno miltisto” ... and turns out to be the most merciful beings full of love ...
“enti dar warun auh manake mit inan cootlihhe geista”: ghosts swarming the throne of God, is strongly reminiscent of Isaiah 6, God in the midst of the Seraphim and Cherubim
“Enti cot heilac”: the Holy God - for me is E major the fire, the energy, the clarity in the vision of God
