David Avshalomov David Avshalomov: Carl Orff Competition 2020 CHICKEN PIE

« Back ⇧List⇧ Next »
This is an arrangement of the traditional American folk song "Old Joe Clark" about a rich and selfish man who had a house full of chicken pie. The original lyrics are pretty silly, but the real Old Joe Clark was not a generous or kind person. Therefore, to make it more relevant today I have written new verses 2, 3, and 4 referencing worldwide food insecurity and homelessness among children and our impulse to help.
I think 12 year olds are mature enough to deal with this. And the music itself is positive and cheery, not gloomy. It is encouragement to do something now.

The recording is not live (that would be *far too expensive), but MIDI/NotePerformer. You must follow the score to see the words.

Please note that I wrote this as best I could per your extremely detailed guidelines, after several rounds of clarification by Gerhard Müllritter. These included:
1. Addition of stamping and clapping passages by the children.
2. Inclusion of Orff Instrument short introduction and interludes that follow the optional string quintet ones.
3. 2-part harmony in the final variation intepreted as allowing canon.
4. Assumption of intermediate or advanced technique on the Orff instruments--from 12 year olds.

I have tried sincerely to follow your instructions. I only ask that if you review this arrangement and have any issue with the disposition of the various musical forces, please do not disqualify it, but send it back to me with guidance on what needs changing.
