Kamashaw is a girl's name. The Kazakh folk song "Kamaschay" is popular in Kazakhstan and Kazakh media. It can be heard both in schools and on big stages.
I experienced it as a participant in the state concert on the occasion of the inauguration of the first Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev. The school children performed "Kamaschay" in a dance form:
1. glittering owl feather on Kamazhai's head
she is no longer there
something inside me died,
All the joys of the world
thrill me no more
and the heaviness presses on the heart
I was a dummy then
Refrain:
Ahay haylilayym, lililayim
Kamashay, light of my eyes,
you're left behind.
Second Kamashaw has a gold ring in his hand,
does she long for me?
Does she look into the distance?
She couldn't live without me for a minute,
hope has abandoned her?
It's hard for me to believe!
Refrain
3. walk along the banks of the Irtysch* river
Ice will rise, shoe my horse with a horseshoe;
I chose my Kamashay from three settlements
she's worth ninety girls.
Refrain
4. Put the amulet on my neck,
go to the grazing horses,
choose the fastest horse
to ride to Aul** to my kamashaw.
* Irtysch → River in Kazakhstan
** Aul → Kazakh settlement
